Maharashtra on Thursday reported 61,695 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 36,39,855, while 349 new fatalities pushed the toll to 59,153, the state health department said. The COVID-19 case tally is the second-highest single-day count so far after 63,294 infections were reported in the state on April 11.

In view of the pandemic situation in the country, the government on Thursday announced that 100 new hospitals will have their own oxygen plant under PM-CARES Fund. The decision was taken in the Empowered Group 2 (EG2) meeting to review the availability of essential medical equipment and oxygen during COVID and mapping of 12 high burden state to oxygen sources. It was also decided in the meeting that another 50,000 MT of medical oxygen be imported.
